Day of infamy flamethrower11/7/2023 There are also a fair number of really interesting and (as far as I can tell) historically accurate cosmetic unlocks for players who wish to change their character’s appearance. From French countryside villages to dense bombed out cities, to the beaches of Normandy themselves, each map has a very unique set of challenges and structures in which to hide, or use to your advantage. I have been impressed by the variance of them from their obviously different locales to their variance in style. Probably my favorite thing about this game is the maps. It’s a game that punishes you for your mistakes and doesn’t apologize for it. It’s a game that rewards teamwork over kill/death ratios. It’s a game that rewards quick reflexes, but also quick thinking and an understanding of the overall objectives. It will also garner you the frustrations and scorn of your fellow teammates who understand that each death of yours is one less reinforcement they will have access to toward the end of the battle, when things get dicey. Going rogue and just running headlong into the fray without any consideration of what your team is doing, or where your backup is, will more than likely get you killed faster than you can even figure out where the bullet is even coming from. When one single bullet is all it takes for you to die and have to wait, sometimes minutes, for a reinforcement wave in order to respawn into battle, you quickly learn that, in order to succeed in Day of Infamy, you really have to rely on communication with your team and smart, tactical decisions come to by the whole group. It makes you feel like death is waiting for you around every corner, and makes you feel all that much more satisfaction each time you cheat it. Especially with the ability of the officer class of soldier in the game to call in airstrikes and artillery attacks, the game becomes a real sensory overload at times, but not in a bad way. The intense, non-stop, back and forth action of each battle is nerve-shattering at times. The developers managed, yet again, to create a tight, smooth, satisfying experience into several very interesting and unique maps that are big enough to allow for a lot of variation, but small enough to never allow you a moment’s rest. It’s always one of those games that I think, “man, I should really play that more often” when going through the massive backlog of games that sit begging for my attention on Steam.ĭay of Infamy, I think, is easily going to be another one of those games that you just never seem to be able to get enough of. With it comes all the strengths of its predecessor, all the same tried and true game modes and mechanics, but with a new feel and atmosphere. From the makers of Insurgency, sometimes described as a FPS game that fills that middle ground between the twitchy, arcadey chaos of a game like Counter Strike and the almost unbearably complex simulation of a game like Arma 3, comes a game in much the same vein, but set in the iconic era of World War 2.
